Brazil steel company invests $1.4 billion in Peru.
Brazilian steel company Gerdau S.A. will invest US$1.4 billion in its Peruvian subsidiary, an effort to transform Peru into a regional steel powerhouse that can profit from Brazil's building boom.
The investment will boost yearly production at Gerdau's Siderperu unit more than sixfold to 3 million metric tons by 2013, enabling it to increase exports across Latin America and ultimately to Asia, Gerdau CEO Andre Gerdau Johannpeter said Monday.

Brazil's raw steel production up 11.5 percent in July.
Brazil's raw steel output reached a total of 3.2 million tons in July, up 11.5 percent over the same month of 2007, according to a study released on Monday by the Brazilian Institute of Siderurgy (IBS).
The study shows the output of laminated steel reached 2.2 million tons in July, roughly the same volume as in July 2007. The output of long laminated steel reached 974,200 tons, up 11.9 percent over the same month of 2007.

Indonesia's major steel manufacturers plan to raise their exports for the next three months to compensate for decreased local demand in the period surrounding the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan and Idul Fitri.

India. Jindal Steel plans to commission steel plant in Orissa.
Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) plans to commission steel plant in Angul district of Orissa by October 2010 having a capacity of 6 million tons per annum (MTPA), reports Business Standard.
The first phase will have a capacity of 3 mtpa at an investment of Rs 40 billion for the acquisition of land, equipments and placing orders for equipments.
Novolipetsk Steel to buy John Maneely for $3.5 bln.
Novolipetsk Steel one of Russia's largest steel producers, said on Wednesday it had signed a final agreement to acquire the U.S.-based pipe manufacturer John Maneely Company (JMC) for $3.53 billion.
Under the deal, Novolipetsk Steel will acquire the U.S. steel pipe and tube producer from a group of shareholders, including global private equity firm Carlyle Group and the Zekelman family, on a debt free, cash free basis. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be closed in the fourth quarter.
India’s largest steel maker, Tata Steel has signed a $5 billion joint venture investment agreement in Vietnam to set up an integrated steel complex with 4.5 million tonne capacity.
Tata Steel will own 65 per cent stake in the joint venture, while Vietnam Steel Corporation gets 30 per cent and the remaining 5 per cent goes to Vietnam Cement Industries. Both these companies are state-owned firms. Vietnam Steel is Vietnam's largest steel company and currently produces around 5 million tonne steel per annum.

A Bulgarian steel mill owned by Indian businessman Pramod Mittal is bankrupt, a court ruled Wednesday, paving the way for the plant's sale.
Ukrainian billionaire Konstantin Zhivago and ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steelmaker, have expressed interest in the communist-era Kremikovtsi plant, which reportedly has debts of at least 800 million euros (1.25 billion dollars).
